Monday evenings mark my weekly trip across the boarder into Devon! You'll find me in the ceramics studio in Plymouth College of Art, where this term I am teaching the 'improvers throwing with surface decoration' short course. We will be exploring some slip decorating methods using slips, oxides & sgraffito. Simple mark making- which can be very effective, tissue paper transfers and finally ceramic digital transfers. These techniques can be used individually or built up on one piece (think Grayson Perry).
The thing I really enjoy about teaching is the social aspect. It means getting out of the solitary studio, with only the dogs & 6music for company. Don't get me wrong I actually enjoy my own space but I also love bouncing ideas to & fro, chatting about a new, exciting 'thing' I've seen, or even if I've just found a simpler way of doing something! The dogs treat the wheel like white noise, so are mainly asleep most of the time. But most of all I love to see people really engaging & enjoying the making process.
If you are interested you can sign up to receive short course emails from PCA. Lots of exciting short courses on offer, from pottery & screen printing to life drawing or hat making!
